A few steps

A few steps

Just a few short steps away you’ll be welcomed by the embrace of St Peter’s Square, with the basilica dominated by Michelangelo’s Cupola and Gian Lorenzo Bernini’s colonnade.

The walk

The walk

A walk along the walls of the Leonine City and on down the passage known as the Passetto di Borgo, will lead you to Castel Sant’Angelo, from where to cross its scenic bridge and enter Rome’s historic city centre. A true compendium of history of art, it will make you love the origins, the grandiose nature, the decline and the rebirth of this extraordinary city, with its succession of polychromes and dazzling white statues, obelisks and steeples, terraces and views, courtyards and cloisters, stately homes and gardens, columns and churches, talking statues and mediaeval towers.

This is the Rome of extraordinary and famous squares such Piazza Navona and Piazza Farnese, the animated Campo de’ Fiori, the majesty of the Pantheon, the choreography of the Trevi Fountain, of that unique architectural stage that is Piazza di Spagna.

Roma eterna

Roma eterna

With a series of vortical jumps across the centuries, almost literally travelling through time, you will cross the island called Isola Tiberina that, like an ancient ship, will alight you at the Campidoglio, from where you can proceed to the Coliseum , the symbol of Rome’s eternity, where you can walk among the ruins of Rome’s ancient Forum, with its arches, domus, thermal baths and basilica.

The beauty

The beauty

You will then again cross the river into the neighbourhood known as the Rione Trastevere …

"and then in the evening one returns home tired and exhausted by the admiration and the wonder" that this city evokes, as Goethe wrote in his travel diary.

Comfort and elegance

Comfort and elegance

And then it’s back to the Relais “La Cupola del Vaticano”, and plans for a walk to Villa Borghese the next day or to see some of the more modern parts of Rome, such as the “Foro Italico” Olympic Park and the Olympic Village with an eye to contemporary architecture such as the Auditorium, a project of Architect Renzo Piano, and the Maxxi.

"Absolutely love this hotel"

Very friendly and helpful staff. Excellent breakfast. Right next to the St Peter's cathedral. Reasonable price. Absolutely love this hotel and would wish to go back again if I ever going to visit Rome again.”
